12 Dua’s You Should Make This Ramadan
As we enter the holy month of Ramadan, we must recognise all the benefits we can reap from this sacred month.

Let's remind ourselves that this month holds so much more significance than just fasting from food. This holy month is a time to hit the pause button on our busy lives, reflect on our actions, and focus on being the best versions of ourselves while creating a deeper connection with Allah. It's also a chance to increase our ibadah and incorporate them in our daily routine so that we can carry them beyond just Ramadan.

But wait, it gets even better! Ramadan isn't just a time to ask for the possible; it's an open invitation to dream big and ask for the seemingly impossible, knowing that with Allah, anything is within reach!

To guide you through this sacred month, here are 12 essential dua's to incorporate into your routine. These prayers can bring you closer to Allah, and increase your Ramadan experience.

1. Beginning Your Fast

Setting your intention before any act of worship is to internally reaffirm our commitment to seek Allah’s pleasure. This dua to start your fast is the perfect way to set your intention.

Wa bisawmi ghadin nawaitu min shahri ramadan

“I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan.”

Sunan Abi Dawud

2. Dua for Breaking Your Fast

When breaking your fast, it is recommended to recite the following dua, as per the following hadith:

Dhahaba al-zama’u, wa’btallat al-‘urooqu, wa thabata al-ajru insha’Allah.

“The thirst is gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is confirmed if Allah wills.”

Sunan-abu-Dawud, Sahihul-Jami’ As-Saghir

Note: it's also highly recommended at iftar to make other dua too!

3. Frequently recite during Lailatul Qadr

Making dua for forgiveness during the last 10 days especially on Lailatul Qadr is crucial. Scholars have said that this is the most beloved Lailatul Qadr dua to recite:

Allahumma innaka Afuwwun Karimun tuhibbul `afwa fa`fu `annee

“O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning, Generous, You love pardon, so pardon me.”

Tirmidhi 3513 (Sahih)

4. Forgiveness

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“There are three whose supplication is not rejected: The fasting person when he breaks his fast, the just leader, and the supplication of the oppressed person"

Ramadan is the perfect opportunity to ask for forgiveness by reciting this dua:

Rabbana zalamna anfusana wa-in lam taghfir lana wa-tarhamna la-nakunanna minal-khasirin

Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will certainly be lost.

Surah Al-A’raf, 7:23

5. Protection From Hellfire

During Ramadan, dua holds immense significance, making it the ideal time to recite this supplication:

Rabbanaa ‘aatinaa fid-dunyaa hasanatan wa fil-‘aakhirati hasanatan wa qinaa ‘athaaban-naar

Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the Fire

Quran 2:201

6. For granted Jannah

Allah has provided us with glimpses of Jannah throughout the Qur’an and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. But He hasn't just left us admiring from afar; He's given us the roadmap to reach it. Here's a dua you can recite, paving your path to Jannah:

Rabbib ni lee ‘indaka baytan fil Jannah

My Lord! Build for me a home with You in Paradise

Surah At-Tahrim 66:11

7. Someone angers you while fasting

This hadith states that "fast is a shield; when one of you is fasting, he should neither behave in an obscene manner nor foolishly." So recite:

Innee saa’im, innee saa’im

I’m fasting, I’m fasting.

8. Protection

Seeking Allah's SWT through dua is a pathway to deepen our connection with Him. Asking for protection is an expression of our humility and acknowledgment of our reliance on His wisdom and support. Here is a dua to gain Allah's SWT protection:

aʿūdhu bikālimāti l-lahi t-taāmaāti min sharri mā khalaqa

I seek refuge in Allah’s Perfect Words from the evil of what he created.

Jami at-Tirmidhi 3604b (Sahih)

9.Good Character

Good Character is a fundamental part of Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: "The best of my nation are those with the best character.” Recite this dua to attaining good character:

allahumma kamā aḥsanta khalqī, faḥassin khuluqī

O Allah You have made my creation perfect, so make my moral characteristics also the best.

Bulugh al-Maram

10.Direction

As you get ready to break your fast, remember to recite the following dua for clarity and direction:

āllahumma ahdinī wa saddidnī

O Allah, direct me to the right path and make me adhere to the straight path.

Sahih Muslim 2725 a (Sahih)

11. Patience

We're encouraged to be patient in the face of challenges, but how exactly can we achieve this virtue? Reciting this dua will help strengthen your patience:

rabawnā afrigh ʿalaynā ṣabran wa tawaffanā muslimīn

Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims.

Quran; 7:126

12. Rizq

Rizq encompasses many facets, from attaining a halal income to performing good deeds. Asking Allah for rizq is a way for Muslims to submit and acknowledge no good comes but from Allah. This helps us Muslims gain Allah's love, so take a moment to recite this dua:

Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘Ilman naafi’an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa ‘amalan mutaqabbalan

Oh, Allah! I ask You for knowledge that is of benefit, a good provision and deeds that will be accepted.
