Taraweeh is a congregational prayer that is common amongst Muslims. Typically performed during the month of Ramadan and considered as Qiyam al layl! The word Taraweeh means to 'take a break or rest', these prayers offer a welcome pause from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Taraweeh is more than just a simple night prayer. It's about connecting with Allah, seeking forgiveness, and elevating your soul. It's a time for personal reflection, bonding with the community, and growing spiritually. So, join us as we unravel the beauty and significance of Taraweeh during Ramadan!

Benefits of Taraweeh Prayer

Spiritual Renewal:

Taraweeh offers Muslims an opportunity for spiritual growth and closeness to Allah during Ramadan.
By engaging in prayers each night, it is a chance to self-reflect, seek forgiveness, and deepen our connection with Allah.

Taraweeh allows us to experience the limitless mercy and forgiveness promised to those who worship sincerely:

Al-Bukhari (37) and Muslim (759) narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever prays qiyam in Ramadan out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.”

Following the Sunnah:

Following the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who consistently performed Taraweeh prayers throughout Ramadan, holds immense significance.

Taraweeh provides an opportunity to immerse oneself in listening to the Quran. This holds significance because the Quran was revealed during the month of Ramadan.

This practice aligns with the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH). It also serves as a means to seek the pleasure and happiness of Allah (SWT). By honouring this Sunnah, Muslims strengthen their connection with the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Allah SWT.

Improving Regular Salah:

Taraweeh prayers, whether comprising 8 or 20 Rak'ahs, instils a habit of prolonged standing in prayer. This makes the performance of regular Salah throughout the year more manageable.

By participating in Taraweeh, Muslims become accustomed to extended periods of prayer, thereby enhancing their overall prayer routine and fostering discipline in their worship practices.

Immense reward:

Numerous good deeds await both men and women who engage in Taraweeh prayer.

Prophet (PBUH) said: “Whoever prays qiyaam with the imam until he finishes, there will be recorded for him the reward of spending the night in prayer.”

How to pray Taraweeh Prayer

Taraweeh prayer follows the Isha prayer, marking the end of the day's worship. While there's no fixed number of Rak'ahs (prayer units), the most common is 8 or 20 Rak'ahs. The choice of the number of Rak'ahs often reflects local customs, traditions, or personal preference.

As believers progress through Taraweeh, they complete each set of Rak'ahs before pausing briefly. This break isn't just about physical rest; it's a moment for spiritual introspection and renewal. It's a chance for worshippers to recharge their souls and refocus their devotion.

At the core of the Taraweeh experience lies the recitation of the Quran. The Imam leads the prayer, while worshippers immerse themselves in the timeless verses of divine guidance. These recitations serve as a source of inspiration, guidance, and spiritual nourishment for all in attendance.

Here is a step by step of of Taraweeh prayer:

  1. Perform 4 Rak'ahs of Fardh for Isha.

  2. Follow with 2 Rak'ahs of Sunnah for Isha.

  3. Begin Taraweeh by praying the first 4 Rak'ahs, dividing them into 2 Rak'ahs each.

  4. Take a brief break after every set of 4 Rak'ahs.

  5. Resume Taraweeh with another 4 Rak'ahs.

  6. Decide whether to conclude Taraweeh at this point or continue until reaching a total of 20 Rak'ahs.

  7. Conclude the night with the Witr prayer.
